Oireachtas Education Project
On Monday 21 April, the school played host to an education facilitator appointed by Ceann Comhairle, John O’Donoghue. Aoife Ruane was here to work through a pilot CSPE project with a select group of junior cycle students. Nine classes from first to third year were represented, and over a double period Aoife went through the core aspects of the project with them. A school was chosen from every constituency in the country, and the feedback from the students will be vital in the development of the final educational package, to be rolled out to all schools in the future. Students covered aspects of democracy, both on local and national levels, and after lunch they were given the opportunity to have a question and answer session with local TDs, Senator Joe O’Reilly (F.G) and Seymour Crawford (F.G). Many students found the experience empowering, and took away with them the idea of getting involved in local and national issues.
