Graduation Night 2008
This years graduation occurred on the 22nd of May 2008, in the school assembly hall. The theme of this years graduation was gratitude/appreciation/thanks. Both students, staff and parents were involved in the reading of poems and reflections which reminded them of the five years they spent here at St Aidan’s. Kevin Mc Cabe a member of this years class gave a memorable account of his time here as a student. A very moving ceremony of light took place which involved the passing on of a lit candle by the Principal, the Chaplain, a Parent, a First Year Pupil and a Past Pupil and was followed by a very moving reflection read by each. Geraldine Igoe, a parent read a beautiful reflection of direction aimed at the fifty five members of this years class. It was responded to by Brain Crossan, a sixth year student with a reflection expressing heartfelt thanks to parents and staff and all associated with their education so far. Fr Kevin, the school chaplain address encouraged the students to acknowledge the contribution that many people over the last five years gave to them and he wished them every success and happiness with whatever career they wish to follow in life. Later the Principal Ms Smith expressed her good wishes to the Class of 2008.
The graduation was followed by an awards ceremony coordinated by the Ms Meehan the year head. This ceremony acknowledged the valuable contribution and successes students made in all areas of school life both academic, sporting and extra curricular. Many of these prizes were sponsored by the continuing kindness of many business people in our community, namely, Mr John Foy, Mr Paddy Ward, The Bank of Ireland, Cootehill, the Flanagan Family and the Parents Association.
The following are the main awards received:
Bank of Ireland Student of the Year Terence Deery
