Student Enterprise

The annual Cavan “Student Enterprise Awards” were held on Wednesday 5th March 2009. These awards offer students the opportunity to take a business from the idea stage right through to completion. Thirty five business projects from seven schools in County Cavan were showcased in the Slieve Russell Hotel with over 230 students from the age of thirteen to sixteen involved, all vying to win one of the fifteen awards available on the day.
The judging panel had to critique three different groups, Junior, Intermediate & Senior with five categories in each group, best display, award for innovation, two runner-up awards and the overall winner.
After a three hour long judging process St. Aidan’s scooped two out of five awards in the Intermediate Category.
The production of a football calendar “Premier Calendars” won runner- up in the Intermediate category. The budding entrepreneurs were Ryan Craddock, Joseph Kelly, Rory Traynor and John Carney.
The “Locker Aid” team was victorious in the Intermediate Category as they won Best Innovative Idea. These innovative entrepreneurs were Francis Hand, Mark Foster, Shane Higgins and Dominic Donegan.
All winners were presented with a fabulous engraved trophy and cheque by Mr. Vincent Reynolds CEO, Mr. Jim Fox Assistant CEO and Ms. Marcella Rudden – Business Advisor Cavan County Enterprise Board. A number of members of the County Council also attended on the day to offer their congratulations to the young student entrepreneurs.
