St. Aidan's Interprovincial Soccer Representatives
The schools interprovincial soccer matches between the provinces are held every year and are a great chance for up and coming young footballers to test their skills against the best school soccer players in the country.
St Aidan's students’ John Carney and Caolan Reilly began their attempts to be selected by travelling to Monaghan’s Gortekeegan with many other young hopefuls from the Cavan/Monaghan region. The boys were assessed by a number of people including Tom Mohan the chief development scout. A number of these boys were selected to make up a Cavan/Monaghan team to play a Donegal selection. Both John and Caolan made it through these first qualifiers. They then returned to Gortakeegan the following week to play against Donegal. The Cavan/Monaghan team won 4-3 and both boys did enough to be selected to travel to Donegal as part of the Ulster team to face a representative side from Belfast.
After again performing well both boys were selected for the reduced inter pro squad. They travelled to Athlone and whilst the Ulster team did not achieve ultimate success both boys performed with great credit. They were beaten narrowly in the last minute by Connaught, drew with Leinster and were beaten by the eventual winners Munster. Both boys were a credit to themselves their families and represented their school with honour. They also received certificates to acknowledge their fine achievement.
