Cross County Football success
Teachers and students of St.Aidan’s Comprehensive School have experienced championship football success with their individual clubs in both Cavan and Monaghan in 2011.
David Harpur, (a sixth year student) despite his tender years, played a key role for Shercock in winning the Cavan Junior Championship this year and also in leading his minor team to the division one championship. An inspirational student and sports person, David was instrumental in St. Aidan’s senior county vocational success last year and as current team captain, is hopeful the school can regain its title in 2012.
Drumgoon captured the Cavan intermediate championship honours in 2011 with St. Aidan’s teacher Michael Hannon to the fore. Michael, who will be familiar to followers of Cavan county football, currently coaches gaelic and basketball teams in St.Aidan’s.
Across the county divide in Monaghan, county star Owen Lennon helped his native Latton to the senior football championship with a narrow victory over a gallant Scotstown. Owen is Head of PE and director of sport in St. Aidan’s. With students and teachers of such sporting pedigree, it is little wonder that the school boxes far above its weight in terms of sporting achievement.
