Maths Week 2011
Students count their blessings in Maths Week
Maths week in St.Aidan’s is always a high point in the school calendar with students participating in many fun, exciting and challenging mathematical activities.
The rationale behind the special week devoted to mathematics is to raise the subject profile, increase and broaden understanding of the subject and to dispel the myth that working with numbers is boring or difficult.
The teachers involved always put a huge amount of effort into organising activities that emphasise and promote the idea that mathematics surrounds us in all aspects of our daily lives and that numeracy skills are not just for passing exams.
At a time when many Irish Mathematics student are preforming poorly in the state exams throughout the country, events such as Maths week may partly explain the continued academic success of St.Aidan’s students.
