St. Aidan’s senior boys enjoy success.
It has been a vintage year thus far for the senior boys in all basketball competitions. The school has entered teams at B and C division level. The B division team qualified for the All-Ireland Schools Cup where they will play St. Muredeach’s, Ballina in Athlone Regional Sports Centre on Friday 9th January. In progressing this far they have beaten teams from Castleblayney, Ballymena and two from Belfast. Darren Tiernan, Eoin Roche and Dean Connolly have all received MVP awards in these matches.The same squad won the North–East Regional league for the second successive year on Tuesday 16th December. In the semi-finals they accounted for Gormanston College 55-30 while they recorded a 89-28 win against St. Oliver’s Community School, Drogheda in the final. The All-Ireland play-offs for this will take place at the end of January
B-Team Panel

The C division team have progressed into the semi-finals of the North-East C division league. These will take place immediately after Christmas. The teams emerged from its pool and beat Athboy Community School in the quarter final. Trailing 11-0 at the end of the first quarter and 28-21 at the end of the third quarter the team ran a full court press in the final quarter that completely disrupted the opposition and won eventually 47-33. They play Patrician High School, CMX in the semi.
