Transition Year Trip to European Space Centre Belgium
28 students and 3 teachers travelled to the European Space Agency in Belgium on the from the 2nd until the 6th February as part of the Transition Year Programme. Below is a brief description of the trip.
We left the school at 4am and headed to Dublin where we flew out to Belgium to be picked up by our coach which would be with us for the week. Our fisrt stop was at an interactive science museum just outside Brussels. We travelled on to the space centre where we settled in for the rest of the night by having dinner and watching a DVD. The next morning (and every other morning!!) we got up very early and had breakfast. Every morning we attended space classes and activities such as the multi-axis chair, the zero gravity wall, the moonwalk simulator and the mission control simulator. We also learnt about many other interesting aspects of space travel.
Every afternoon we went on various activities away from the centre. We visited a German city for shopping, we went to an aquapark and a forest adventure while on the last day we visited some of the largest caves in Europe.
Nightime activities included bowling, pool and a trip to a Belgium soccer match. The weather was very cold all week and we enjoyed lots of snow fights.. At the end of the week we received our certificates and were very sad to be going home.
Overall the trip was a great success where both students and teachers had a very good time. Below are some photos from the trip.
