TY Trip to Belgium 2010

We left Dublin at about 7 am on Monday morning. When we landed at the airport we went to a science museum. It was full of interactive exhibitions that explored many topics of science.

On the second day we were woken early at 7 am (the middle of the night) by Mr. Farrell for our classes to begin. We did various science experiments using a vacuum pump. After lunch we went to an archery and rifle shooting range and orienteering in a cave- that was savage, afterwards we had a BBQ.

On Wednesday we got to try out various simulators and a micro gravity wall – which allowed us to feel what it would be like without gravity. In the afternoon we went to a swimming pool- it had a brilliant wave machine that nearly ended my holiday on day 3!.

On Thursday, we had no classes and took a trip to Holland- the journey was long and tiring but it was a great day in the end.

On Friday morning we had our last class- the well awaited shuttle simulator. We had to act out a shuttle lift-off. We started off with audio check and I sang Elvis into the microphone. We then had to lift off, mount a satellite in orbit and then visit the international space station ‘Freedom’.On the way to the airport we went to a cave for a tour of what geographical features can be found in Belgian caves. We then went back to the airport and left Belgium for Ireland. We landed in Dublin at about 8p.m where it was cold, wet but it was Home Sweet Home.
