The Chaplain's Office
The
chaplain is a person of faith and committed to the values of Christ, who
on behalf of the school and church communities accompanies young people
on their journey through life.
The Chaplain is also involved in supporting teachers, staff and parents.
The work of the Chaplain can be described under four headings:
Ministry
to the Students.
Ministry to the Student's Families
Ministry to the Staff
Ministry through Liturgy
The Chaplain is always available to all members of the school community
to offer support as follows:
Open Door
No matter what stage in life we are at, all of us need some kind of support.
The School Chaplain provides an open door where students, staff and parents
can come and find support in a confidential and safe way.
Counselling
The Chaplain is available to listen to those who need to talk to someone
in a non-judgemental and confidential way.
Bereavement support
The loss of someone close through death or separation is one of the most
traumatic events in a person's life. The Chaplain offers immediate support
to students and staff at times of bereavement, trauma or loss or tragedy.
Liturgy
Through varied liturgies we can celebrate our faith in a meaningful and
prayerful way which helps us to connect with God who is always by our
side directing and supporting us. To this end the Chaplain throughout
the year will organise prayer services, liturgies and Eucharist to mark
the different stages of the school year. During the liturgical seasons
displays and religious features are constructed as reminders to help the
school community to focus on what is being celebrated.
Retreats
Each year a faith retreat is organised for Junior and Leaving Certificate
students and where possible students of other years will also be provided
with a retreat day.
Parish outreach
Students are encouraged and trained to become involved in the liturgies
of their own parishes and will also represent their school at the parish
liturgies of Christmas and Easter.
Fundraising
Students are always made aware of the need for a more just world and a
more equal distribution of world wealth. Each year a fundraising event(s)
is organised to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
