Senior Boys St. Aidan's Vs Ballybay Community School

St.Aidan's 0-09 Ballybay 0-06

The eagerly anticipated match between St. Aidan’s and Ballybay got under way in Aughnamullen on Friday February 11th. It was Ballybay who started off the stronger team by scoring a point in the opening minute. Ballybay continued to dominate by getting two more points on the scoreboard. 13 minutes into the game David Harpur opened Cootehill's account with a point. The first half continued at a very fast pace. Stephen Donnery missed a very valuable goal chance to reduce the margin between the two teams, while on the opposite end Corey Smith denied Ballybay the chance to extend thier lead. Both teams missed valuable scoring opportunities coming up to half time. The half time score was Ballybay 5 points to Cootehill's 3 points.
St. Aidan’s started strong in the second half with scores from Stephen Donnery and Stephen Jackson which brought them level with Ballybay. Points from Stephen Jackson, Caolan Reilly and Stephen Donnery extended their lead to ensure victory by three points.  St. Aidan’s now play Na Rossa from Donegal on the first of March in the Ulster quarter final of the Markey Cup. Venue not confirmed yet.

First Half

Finally the night has to come after all the snow and frost the match is getting under way in Breffni Park on the 3g pitch on a wet and windy Tuesday evening at 8pm. With the crowd in the stand all cheering their team on, the ball is thrown in at seven minutes past eight. And with not even a minute gone in the match David Harpur gets the ball and blasts it by the Virginia goalkeeper Aoran Farrelly for the first score of the match going to St.Aidan's. This gave Cootehill a good boost for the start of the match but means nothing unless they kept it up. Virginia were fowling quite a lot around the forty five yard line giving St.Aidan's and opportunity to capitalise on this. Minute's later number twelve for Virigina Cian Wogan sends the ball over the bar for their first score of the game after a wide just moment earlier. Then Corey Smith, Cootehill's goalkeeper kicks the ball out and the ball is passed of to Ian Craddock the full forward for Cootehill but unfortunately he puts it wide. The ball was kicked out again and Virginia win the kick out and it is kicked into full forward, Cian McEnroe who puts the ball over the bar from the twenty yard line after having a bad miss minutes earlier. Virginia wins the ball around midfield again and is sent straight back in and the ball is shot into the goals but to St.Aidan's delight the referee called a square ball. Virginia is gaining momentum and has possession of the ball again but send it wide again tonight. Then a fowl is made on a St.Aidan's player forty yards out from the Virginia goals. Conor Moynagh, St.Aidan's centre half back and Cootehill's Captin steps up to the ball and sends it beautifully over the bar to make the score St.Aidan's 1 goal and 1 points Virginia 2 points. Minutes later another free is given to St.Aidan's after the ball is kicked out but to their disappointment Conor Moynagh does not get the result they were looking for as he sends it over the end line and wide. Then the St.Aidan's sideline decides its time to make a change with only around ten minutes left in this half. Number twenty Stephen Jackson replaces number ten Liam Keane. Moment's later number seventeen for Cootehill, Stephen Donnery who is now at wing half forward kicks the ball over the bar. Then shortly after Virginia respond with a point from number eight Kevin Mulvany. Corey Smith, Cootehill's goalkeeper kicks the ball straight to midfield and Virginia make use of this and pass it in to the full forward number fourteen Cian McEnroe scores a point for his second time today, but Cootehill make a bust and a said its time to reply and Stephen Donnery scores the last score before half time in this exciting match on this awful wet evening.

Second Half

The ball was thrown in at forty nine minutes past eight. Minutes later Ian Craddock missed a goal chance, it hit off the post to St.Aidan’s disappointment. After about six minutes of play gone Stephen Donnery for Cootehill score their first point of this half but Stephen isn’t finished yet a couple of minutes pass and then Stephen buries the ball to the back of the net.  Virginia have not got into this half yet as they have put two wides so far. Minutes later St. Aidan’s receive a forty five as number fifteen for Virginia, David Clarkin hit the ball over the end line. Stephen Jackson steps up to take it but it drops short and Virginia’s backs are not long getting the ball out of the danger zone. Over the space of four minutes number eight for Virginia, Kevin Mulvany puts two balls wide for them.
With fifteen minuites gone Virginia score their first score of the match by number fourteen Cian McEnroe. In the space of seven minutes both team clocked up two wides each. But then Virginia’s number eleven James Bradley sends the ball beautifully over the bar. Then Cootehill’s sideline make another change John Carney replaces Stephen Donnery.
Viriginia really do not have their shooting boots on tonight which is an advantage to Cootehill as they send another two balls over the end line and wide. Cootehill’s Damien Hand number three is having a superb game in the backs along with Ryan Craddock. They are wasting good chances here but then number eleven James Bradley and number nine Padraig McManus took matters into their own hand and scores a point each for the Virginia side. Coming into the last few minutes of this game Gary Watters replaces Damien O’Brien on the St.Aidan’s team. Minutes later Cootehill’s dream came true after waiting for eleven years the cup comes back to Cootehill.

First Half

The ball was thrown in by referee Brian Crowe on this fine Monday afternoon at five minutes past twelve. The excitement was ecstatic from both sides. In the first minute of play John Carney, Cootehill’s number ten score the first point of the day but not long after Cootehill is rewarded a free around the forty yard line and Gary Watters registers it for Cootehill’s second point of the game after three minutes of play. Moments later the ball is kicked in at Virginia’s goals but drops short and there is a bit of a tussle but John Carney Pam’s the ball down and into the back of the net to Cootehill’s advantage to make score St.Aidan’s 1 goal 3 points and Virginia no score, but Cootehill aren’t finished yet after two minutes Damien O’Brien scores a lovely point. Then with eleven minutes gone Virginia decide it’s time to reply to Cootehill with two points from number eight scores one from play and one from a free. Minutes later Virginia forwards make a shot for goals but the back Dominic Donegan who is having a cracker of a game makes a great save but two minutes later Virginia’s number eleven scores another point from a free. Then St.Aidan’s win the kick out at midfield and is passed of to Oisin Carolan who scores another point for the Cootehill side. After this Virginia decide it’s time to take action but unfortunately number eleven sends the ball wide twice with only a minute in between. Then with twenty two minutes gone in this half Caolan Reilly sends a perfect ball into Damien O’Brien who outs it to the back of the net for Cootehill’s second goal of the match, after this Cootehill seem to go out of the game for the rest of this half. Then the ball is kicked out by Virginia’s goal keeper and Virginia gain possession and keep it for the next few minutes and gain two points from it both from their midfield number eight. Then with only a minute left in this half Virginia’s number eleven sends to great scores over the bar to make the score St.Aidans 2 goals 4 points to Virginia 7 points.

Second Half

The second half was kicked off at ten minutes to one o’clock. Virginia gain possession straight away but number 12 puts the ball to the left and wide. But Gary Watters isn’t long before he has the ball to the other end of the pitch and sends it straight over the bar for the first score of the second half in this exciting county final. Moments later Virginia receives a free on the twenty yard line but number eights does not deliver as he sends it wide. The Cootehill’s sideline decides to bring on fresh legs Josh Crowe replaces Simon Boyle with ten minutes gone. The Caolan Reilly for Cootehill sends the ball over the bar from a free yet again. Then Virginia sideline bring on two subs In the space of a couple of minutes number twenty two replaces number ten and seventeen replaces number twelve. Cootehill are fowling quite a lot around the forwards and are giving away handy free’s which number eight scores another point from with fifteen minutes gone in this half but Cootehill are not long before the gain the ball back and midfield Ryan O’Reilly sends the ball straight in Caolan Reilly but to everyone’s disappointment he sends it wide but only three minutes after this Virginia’s number eleven sends the ball wide twice in a row but straight after number eight puts another point on the score board. Everyone is getting very excited as Virginia are coming back into this game well and there is time left for them to change this game around. The out of nowhere Oisin Carolan brings the ball down the field and without even thought just fisted it over the bar. Then yet again Cootehill’s backs give away another free and Virginia score and bring it back to only three points and then to Cootehill devastation Virginia sends the ball in and drops short and ends up in the back of the net making the scores even with only a minute left in this county final. The ball is quickly kicked out by Cootehill’s goal keeper Enda Shalvey and Cootehill make a dash for the goals and Virginia’s back make a massive mistake but it is to Cootehill’s advantage and give away a free and Gary Watters steps up to the mark, he must be feeling the pressure but he doesn’t show it and sends it straight over the bar. Seconds later the referee blows the whistle and St.Aidan’s have become County Champions

The ball is thrown in at 11.45am on this very wet and horrible day between St.Aidan’s Comprehensive School and Bailieboro Community School.
With only four minutes played in this match Damien O’Brien sends the ball by the keeper and to the back of the net to put St.Aidan’s in the lead. The ball is sent back down the field and Bailieboro take a shot at the goals but it is blocked by Dominic Donegan and the ball is sent out the field again. Another two minuets pass in this match and one after another Liam Keane and Caolan Reilly sends the ball over the bar to put St.Aidan’s 1goal and 2 points up. Seven minutes pass without a ball even getting near either goals but then David Harpur rallys down the field and puts almighty power behind his kick but it smacks of the post and comes back into play and Bailieboro go down the field and take their first shot of the games but sends it to the right and wide. Four minutes later both teams register another wide. The St.Aidan’s side line decide it’s time to make a change and Stephen Jackson replaces Stephen Donnery in the forwards. Then the super sub Stephen Jackson sends the ball to the back of the net after only entering the field and minute and half before. Seconds later Bailieboro’s number eight gets their first score of the game. After twenty six minutes of this half played Bailieboro’s midfield Micheal Argue catch the kickout and takes a very courageous shot at the goals but sends it wide. Then coming from a 45 St.Aidan’s add another point to the leader board by Stephen Jackson. The in the space of a minute Ian Craddock and Paddy Carolan both put a wide for St.Aidan’s bringing us to half time. The half time score reads St.Aidan’s 2 goals and 3 points to Bailieboro 1 point.


The second half gets under way at twenty minutes past twelve o’clock and after a minute gone Paddy Carolan and Stephen Jackson both send the ball over the bar for the St.Aidan’s side. Two minutes later Ian Craddock puts another score on the board for St.Aidan’s today in the pouring rain. Then bailieboro make a bust down the field and number nine receives the ball and puts it straight over the bar. Then in the space of two minutes of each other both Stephen Jackson and John Greenan send a ball wide for St.Aidan’s for their fifth wide today. Two minuets pass and the St.Aidan’s line make a change to their team Shane McCann replaces Dominic Donegan. Minutes later Paddy Carolan puts the ball over the bar yet again. Then the side line for St.Aidan’s decide to change the team again and Mark Cassidy replaces Barry Cooney in the back line. Three minutes passed and Ian Craddock scores another point for St.Aidan’s and also Gary Watters replaces Caolan Reilly in the forward line for St.Aidan’s. with sixteen minutes gone in the match Liam Keane scores St.Aidan’s ninth point of the day. After another minute Gary Watters score two points in a row with a few seconds of each other. With eighteen minutes gone in the match Liam Keane get injured and Aaron McIntyre replaces him. Then Bailieboro go down the field and number 2 scores their last score of the day. Then after another five minutes Ryan Craddock replaces Francis Hand on the St.Aidan’s side. Then minutes later Paddy Carolan scores their last point of the day to make the score St.Aidan’s 2 goals and 12 points to Balieboro 3 points.

 

Under 14 Boys Match V’s Bel-bawn 08 October 2010

The ball was thrown in at thirty five minutes past ten on this Friday morning.
With three minutes gone Dermot Connelly sends the ball to the back of the net for the 1st score of the match. Three minutes later number nine for Bel-bawn repies with a goal for their side. Sean O’Connor for St.Aidan’s after twelve minutes gets another goal. Seconds later number eleven for Bel-bawn sends the ball over the bar, and number thirteen for Bel-bawn catches the kickout and sends it back over the bar to make the score 2 goals to St.Aidan’s to 1 goal and 1 point for Bel-bawn . With seventeen minutes gone Conor Tully for the St.Aidan’s side rattles the goals with the 3rd goal of the match for them. Two minutes later Caoimhin Carney puts over St.Aidan’s 1st point of the match. A minute later Emmet Magee puts over another point for the St.Aidan’s side. with twenty two minutes gone number thirteen again for Bel-bawn sends the ball over the bar from a free from outside the thirteen yard line to make the score 3 goal 2 points St.Aidan’s to 1 goal 3 points Belbawn. Bel-bawn catch the kickout and build on their score with another point. St.Aidan’s need to get the ball back down the field and just at that Sean O’ Connor sends the ball over the bar to bring the 1st half to a close.
In the space of five minutes in the second half Aodain Steele scores 1 point and a goal for the St.Aidan’s team. Then Caoimhin Carney decides it is his turn and scores three points for St.Aidan’s in the space of three minutes. Then number fourteen for Bel-bawn takes St.Aidan’s on himself and scores a lovely point. With sixteen minutes gone in the second half Sean O’Connor blasts the ball by the keeper and to make the score St.Aidan’s 5 goals 7 points to Bel-bawn 1 goal 4 points. Three minutes later Jason Halton sends another point over the bar for St.Aidan’s. A minute later number twelve for Bel-bawn gets their last point of the game , but St.Aidan’s aren’t over yet Sean O’Connor yet again puts the ball by the keeper for his third time. Then seconds later Conal Farrell puts St.Aidan’s last point of the game over the bar.

The end result St.Aidan’s 6 goals 9 points to Bel-bawn 1 goal 5 points.

 

Senior Boys Match V’s Bel-bawn Friday 08 October 2010

  The ball was thrown in at quarter past 12 on Friday morning. After three minuets gone Stephen Donnery scores the first point of the match for St.Aidan’s. Two minutes later Stephen Jackson puts the ball over the bar for St.Aidan’s. A minute later St.Aidan’s receive a free on the 45 yard line which Stephen Jackson steps up to take and he never lets us down, he sends it straight over the bar. After another minute gone in this game David Harpur for St.Aidan’s blasts the ball by the goalkeeper to get St.Aidan’s first goal of the match. Two minutes later St.Aidan’s receive a free and Stephen Jackson scores it. With eleven minutes gone in the match number sixteen for Bel-bawn receive a free on the thirteen yard line and puts their first score over the bar. Twelve minutes into this match and Damien O’Brien for St.Aidan’s puts the ball to the back of the net for their second goal. Three minutes pass and St.Aidan’s receive a free on the twenty which Stephen Donnery grabs this opportunity to put another score on the board for St.Aidan’s. Seconds later to our surprise the ball ends up in the back of the net palmed in by Stephen Donnery for St.Aidan’s. Then just inside the forty five yard line St.Aidan’s receive a free which Stephen Jackson scores to make the score St.Aidan’s 3 goals 6 points to Bel-bawn 1 point. Then within 3 minutes of each other St.Aidan’s get three more points from Stephen Jackson, Mark Cassidy and Damien O’Brien. Then St.Aidan’s side line decides to make a change Conor Moynagh is replaced by Ryan Craddock in the back. Minutes later there is a mix up at the goals and Bel-bawn receive a penalty which number nineteen scores. Then Bel-bawn starts to take of with three points in the space of three minutes two from number eight and one from number thirteen. The St.Aidan’s side are starting to slack. The St.Aidan’s line decides it’s time for another change and Ryan Rogers replaces Damien O’Brien in the forwards. In the last minute of the first half St.Aidan’s receive a free inside the forty five and yet again Stephen Jackson scores to make the half time score St.Aidan’s three goals ten points to Bel-bawn one goal four points.
After two minutes into the second half there is a mix up in the St.Aidan’s back line and Bel-bawn end up with the ball in the back of the net but a minute later St.Aidan’s reply with another goal from Stephen Donnery. A minute later number eleven for Bel-bawn scores a lovely point from inside the forty yard line for their fifth point of the match and yet again St.Aidan’s sideline make two more changes Francis Hand replaces Barry Cooney and Caolon Reilly replaces Stephen Donnery. Seconds later Gary Watters for St.Aidan’s puts over a beautiful point. Minutes later Bel-bawn decide to make a shot for the goals but Dominic Donegan for St.Aidan’s who is having a cracker of a games makes a brilliant save. With thirteen minutes gone in the second half Caolon Reilly puts over his score of the match. Aaron Watson replaces St.Aidan’s John Greenan. After seven minutes without anyone scoring number eight fro Bel-bawn puts over their last score of the match. Then St.Aidan’s sideline decide to change their whole team around Aaron McIntyre replaces David Harpur , Kevin Pritchard replaces Mark Cassidy , Aaron Cosgrove comes on for Dominic Donegan and Joseph Kelly replaces Ciaran O’Reilly. In the space of five minutes left in the game St.Aidan’s Stephen Jackson just finishes the match with another goal for their side to make the final score St.Aidan’s 5 goals 12 points to Bel-bawn 1 goal 6 points.

 

Report on Senior Boys Match v’s Breffni College        28th Sept 2010

 The ball was thrown in by referee Brian Crowe at 25 past 12 on this horrible day between St.Aidan’s Comprehensive School and Breffni College.
Five minutes into the game the 1st score comes from a free which Caolon Reilly sends straight over the bar. Ten minutes gone in the game and Breffni have still yet to respond and Ian Craddock takes a shot and scores another for St.Aidan’s. The ball is kicked out and Breffni win the breaking ball and St.Aidan’s give away a free and numbers eleven for Breffni takes his chance and puts the 1st score down for Breffni.
Thirteen minutes gone and a free is received by St.Aidan’s and Stephen Donnery steps up to take it and hits the ball over the bar to put 2 points between the teams. Two minutes later a 45 is given to St.Aidan’s and again Stephen Donnery takes the shot off the ground but unfortunately sends it wide.
Eighteen minutes into the game Caolon Reilly is fowled after a kick out and scores his 2nd point of the day on the thirteen yard line.Breffni have still yet to get another score but St.Aidan’s are still busting on with Ian Craddock coming through with seven minutes left in this half sends the ball over the bar. Number eight for Breffni is fowled by Conor Moynagh on thirteen yard line and he sends it straight over the bar to make the score St.Aidan’s 5 points Breffni 2 points. The ball is kicked out and Ian Craddock catches the ball and turns straight for the goals and sends the ball to the back of the net for the first goal of the match. Three minutes later Caolon Reilly receives a free outside the twenty yard line and scores and this brings the first half to an end.

Second Half
The ball is thrown in and caught by St.Aidan’s midfield Paddy Carolan and sent straight into the full forward Stephen Donnery who sends it over the bar for his 2nd score of the game. St.Aidan’s win the kick out once again but fail to extend their lead. With two minutes gone Caolan Reilly yet again scores another point from a free St.Aidan’s make a change to their team Damien O’ Brien replaces John Greenan. Four minutes gone in the 2nd half and the ball is dropped in on the square and Ian Craddock gets a fist to it and puts it on the back of the net for the second time for St.Aidan’s with just five minutes gone. David Harper fists the ball over the bar. St.Aidan’s make another change Paddy Smith comes in for Caolon Reilly. Breffni eventully make an attack at the St.Aidan’s side and number 6 is fowled and is rewarded a free but sends it wide. Six minutes gone and Stephen Donnery is passed the ball and buries it in the back of the end to make the score St.Aidan’s 3 goals and 9 points to Breffni 2 points. Another four minutes pass and Aaron Watson comes through with the ball and send it high and over the bar. The kick out was won by number 9 for Breffni he decides to take it on himself shoots from just outside the 20 yard line and sends it over the bar.
Two minutes later Paddy Smith is rewarded a free and he converts it. St.Aidan’s side decide to make another change Ryan Craddock replaces Conor Moynagh. Paddy Carolan catches the kick out send it straight into Stephen Donnery and he puts it by the keeper and in the back of the net. Once again changes are being made on the St.Aidan’s side Stephen Jackson replaces Stephen Donnery.
Fourteen minutes gone in the second half and Paddy Smith puts another ball over the bar. Another four minutes pass and Breffni college but there last point over the bar. One minute later Stephen Jackson steps up to take a 45 for the St.Aidan’s side and makes it worth while by placing it over the bar. Yet again a sub is brought on for St.Aidan’s Aaron Cosgrove replaces Ciaran O’Reilly. In the 27th minute of this game Aaron Watson sends the ball into the back of the net and following straight from that Stephen Jackson places the last score of the day over the bar. The score was St.Aidan’s 5 goals and 14 points to Breffni 4 points.
