Cavan Post Primary Schools Girls Senior Gaelic Blitz

​The Girls Senior Gaelic Team travelled to the 3G Pitch in Breffni Park to participate in the inaugural Cavan Post Primary Schools Girls senior Gaelic 11 a-side Blitz, organised by Ms. English. Mr McQuillan and Members of the Sports Council and TY helped out with organisation and refereeing. Teams participating included; St Mogues, Breifne College and Loreto College. St Aidan’s entered two teams and both teams played in separate groups. In the group stages, St Aidan’s 1 Lost to Loreto 1 however beat St Mogue’s 1 in the second game. St Aidan’s 2 bet St Mogue’s 2 and Breifne College but lost to Loreto 2 in a tough game. In round 4, both St Aidan’s teams secured wins against both Loreto teams and this left them with a place in the competition Semi Final. In the group stages, Abby Fitzpatrick shone in goals, Katie Boyle and Megan Shields had their scoring boots on while Aoife McGorry and Roisin Curran were powerful in midfield. Louise Fitzpatrick, Sharon Wright and Megan O’Flynn were Rocks in defence.
In the semi-finals, St Aidan’s met Loreto and having scored 4 tremendous goals secured their place in the final. The Semi-Final finished 4.03 to 0.04. In the other Semi-Final, Breifne College Beat St Mogue’s to book their place in the Final. The shield final involved St Mogues and Loreto with St Mogues coming out on top after Loreto tired from a tough day of football. On a beautiful afternoon for football, St Aidan’s lined out as follows in the final; Abby Fitzpatrick in goal, Louise Fitzpatrick and Megan O’Flynn in the Full back line, Sharon Wright and Emer Fitzpatrick as half backs, the experienced Aoife McGorry and Roisin Curran Lead Midfield, Megan Shields, Lynn O’Reilly, Ciara Bannon and Katie Boyle at Full forward made up the attack. The Girls worked extremely hard but showed signs of tiredness having played 5 games. The Final was a low scoring affair with St Aidan’s holding a tight defence throughout. The Final score was 2.02 to 0.02 in Favour of St Aidan’s. The girls enjoyed a great day of Football and did themselves and St Aidan’s Very proud. Well Done Girls.
