1st Annual Cavan /Monaghan Youth Awards 2020
The Cavan /Monaghan Youth Awards took place on Thursday 20th February at Hotel Kilmore. These young people were nominated for this Award because of the positive contribution they have made to people in their community. A total of 16 individual and groups were honoured with Awards on the night.
Katie Cooney, Emily Reynolds and Joshua Moore from St Aidan’s received Awards.
Katie volunteered with C.A.P.S. (Cavan Autistic Parent Support group ) and assisted the children who participated in the Easter and Summer camps. She has played the guitar and sang for various elderly support groups like Positive Age and the Darley Day Care Centre in Cootehill. She has helped in the preparation of Liturgical events in her local Parish as part of The John Paul Awards .
Emily is a member of The Silver Fins Special Abilities Swim Club in Bailieboro leisure Centre. Throughout the year on a Sunday morning ,Emily along with the other volunteers give up their time to help facilitate swimming sessions for children with additional needs. Swimming is such a valuable enjoyable life skill and people like Emily and all members of this Swim club use their talents and skills to assist others to achieve their goals.
Joshua received an individual Youth Award for his fundraising efforts for the Irish Cancer Society and Swans Cross Community Alert. Joshua along with his Dad and Grandad completed a three generations swim across Annaghmakerrig Lake and raised over €3000 which was split between the above two Charities .
These young people are an inspiration to us all and are role models for other young people in their community. Congratulations to you all for achieving this Award.
