Junk Kouture 2018

This years Junk Kouture design by students from St Aidan's  Comprehensive school cootehill is based on the idea of a Greek sea Goddess. The dress uses in its design different plastics that you find in the sea that are polluting our fish and sea-life, these plastics were sourced from the builders currently working at the school. The skirt flares out dramatically decorated with plastic bags denoting the rubbish people throw away. There are coins and jewels as under the sea we also find buried treasure and the headdress uses real shells in its design.
The outfit was made and designed by three Transition Year students, Macie Lea who is also the model, Kayla Farrell and Oistin Rutledge. The group have been assisted by Philomena McQuaid and facilitated by the art teacher Mrs Gallagher.
We also received news last week that we had been awarded a 'silver ticket', this means that we are automatically through to the regional final and are the only school in Cavan/Monaghan to receive this accolade. The students are attending the Regional on March 1st and will be attended by a small team of supporters on a supporters bus kindly provided by the school. We wish the group every success and hope that they get rewarded for all their hard work.
