Strictly Come Dancing
This year in St. Aidan’s Comprehensive School, our Transition Year show was “Strictly Come Dancing”. From the beginning all students were eager to get involved and were organised into couples and groups. Instantaneously, what was seen on TV was a great deal harder than it looked, with everyone eager to become the holder of the famous glitter ball!
There were twelve acts, each with a different song and dance routine. Every act practised hard to learn their dance steps which were supposed to last for a minute and a half. That doesn’t sound like much, but you would be surprised how much work is involved, although we hope we made it look effortless! With each person ambitious to be the best, it was a tough competition. However, there were some setbacks along the way, with nail stabbings, boys standing on girl’s hair and feet, bruising and being thrown in the air and then let fall. It is amazing what it takes to get it right, without the need for an ambulance service!
The show proved to be a great success with a fantastic turnout from family and friends. Now that the long hours of practice and rehearsals are over, we have time to reflect on what we have actually accomplished by taking part in “Strictly Come Dancing” during our TY year. Many of us were apprehensive about taking on this project, but got up on stage and gained assurance and confidence in ourselves, by doing something we would have never done before, and for this we will be forever thankful.
We would like to congratulate our top three placed acts. Amy Garland & Jack Morris, Chiara Shanley & Eoin O’Toole and Philip McCabe & Alysia Carolan, who were the worthy winners!
We would also like to acknowledge and thank our very patient TY Year head Miss Sweeney and also TakeTwo Dance Productions with Rosie, Alysia and Tara who took a group of two left footed students and turned us into what we would call Pro-dancers!
